Recurrent Abdominal Pain

What is Recurrent Abdominal Pain?

Recurrent abdominal pain (RAP) is defined as episodes of abdominal pain occurring at least three times over a period of three months, interfering with daily activities. It is common in children and often has no identifiable physical cause. However, it can be linked to functional gastrointestinal disorders, stress, anxiety, or conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Symptoms vary and may include cramping, bloating, nausea, or changes in bowel habits.

How We Cure It

Treatment focuses on identifying and managing triggers. A balanced diet, stress reduction techniques, and regular exercise are often helpful. In cases linked to anxiety or emotional stress, psychological counseling or behavioral therapy may be beneficial. If a specific gastrointestinal disorder is diagnosed, appropriate medications and dietary plans are initiated. Encouraging a supportive environment and avoiding unnecessary medical investigations are also key to effective management.
